Grandma Pat's Lone Star Pepper Beans

Sure to disappear fast and put smiles on faces, this variation on Grandma Pat’s Backyard Beans will have your guests coming back for seconds . . . or thirds. You just can’t get enough of these tasty favorites.
As with most of Grandma Pat’s food, there is always plenty for all eaters. Having raised four kids, Grandma Pat never made a small batch of anything. Her long-handled spoons, deep pots and huge casserole dishes were always ready to stir-up something.  She uses Dr Pepper as one of her secret ingredients in this bean specialty. Enjoy.

  • 2 lbs dry beans, soaked over night
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 20 ounces Dr Pepper
  • 1/2 cup Canola or vegetable oil
  • Zest of one lemon
  • 1/2 cup lemon juice
  • 1 cup catsup
  • 2 tsps KA-Ranch #1derful rub
  • 2 tsps KA-Ranch seasoned salt
  • 1 tsp freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 tsp freshly ground white pepper
  • 1/4 tsp red pepper sauce

Rinse and drain the soaked beans several times, until water runs clear. Set aside.
Add the remaining ingredients to a blender and set on “stir” cycle for approximately 2 minutes, until items are well mixed.
Pour one cup of the sauce over the beans, mix, and pour into a large baking dish.
Bake uncovered at 350 degrees for one hour.
Scoop into a serving bowl and watch the beans disappear.
